Hey there, I’m Dana Mitchell!

I am an art educator based out of the DFW area and the sole owner and operator of Spark Haven Studio. Art has always been in my life for as long as I can remember. From my early cartoon and manga-drawing days to learning how to make a pinhole camera out of a granola bar box to visiting many galleries and immersive exhibits, I have always been fascinated by the things humans create. I have a BFA in Visual Art Studies from the University of North Texas and taught elementary art in the public schools for 8 years.

My passion for teaching art has extended out into this new venture in Spark Haven Studio: a little dream to bring art to more people, young and old, beginner and experienced. As someone who aims to be a lifelong learner, I hope to encourage others to try something new creatively and to have fun doing so. I know what it’s like to struggle with being a perfectionist at art, compare myself to others, and be intimidated to start. But my goal is to help and encourage people through that so that they can experience the joy of art-making.

If I’m not creating art, you might find me playing board games with my husband, tending to a farm in a cozy video game, hanging out at a cute café, or watching a Korean drama.
